HOME

Concluding the long national day weekend with this collage. A reminder of how much I love my little red dot. The sense of peace and safety and the immense pride I have in calling this country my home.  🇸🇬 Majulah Singapore

骑车日记 #1

Just completed my first motorbike lesson, in a way my first ever time operating a real big ass bike and I thought to post about it as keepsake.  Learning how to mount, dismount, start the engine, clutch in, turn the throttle, change gear, both feet off the ground, learning how to balance, how to brake and how to park. Basic but definitely giving me my first taste of how it’s like to ride and it has been unforgettable.  It’s a total different feeling from driving. I mean the comfort and danger level are at two extremes. Driving feels as though I’m being insulated, cushy chairs, aircon, comfy space between me and other moving vehicles. But riding, on the other hand, feels like I’m raw riding on a lion. Powerful, and I can feel the heat, the vibration of the moving machine on my bare skin.  Though safety measures are in place (I believe), I can’t help feeling that I can be injured any time. It can be really daunting seeing people fall off their bikes, tumbling on the ground ...

Just write

Right. Just write. A thought that has been circling my mind. With the advancement of AI, writing seems to become less of a priority to most people. State a purpose, sketch some outline and AI can draft an entire essay within minutes.  Polished, errorless but somehow also lacking a lil something. A sense of human-ness I call it. The way we write, the way we unintentionally weave in some nonsense in between, digress and back to the point again.  Just like the way we would chat in a lighthearted manner.  I mean, I do enjoy the gains that AI has brought forth at work. No more spending hours crafting one email but I know I will always favour reading a human written story over an AI generated one. It’s mastery of craft.  Just like how movies, music created by human will be distinctly different from machine generated. It’s the details, the nuances, the way a singer conveys emotions through his voice and the way a director conveys subtitle messages of life through movies. Th...

Moments of Life

What a week.  Is it even possible to feel down, conflicted, comforted, and excited, blessed all in the span of a week? The planned and unplanned encounters with people, be it friends, colleagues or random strangers. I can’t help but conclude that universe really has a way to let us experience life that is best measured in moments.  The stranger lady who gave me feedback about the redundancies of my bike. Thank you. You didn’t have to risk the discomfort of pointing out all these to a stranger who may or may not heed your advices, but you did, with the intention of wanting me to ride safely. I appreciate all the tips you’ve gave and it really prompted me to look into improving the set up of my bike. You’ve taught me that the heart to care is not only reserved for people we love.  The three stranger uncles who stopped and offered to look for my missing earbud together in the dark. One even offered to lift up the dirty, ants-infected drain covers by hand to help me search fo...

So long, 2025

2025; A year of many firsts and yeses.  Changed a new track, first time in 10 years, with a completely new work environment New boss, new colleagues, new stakeholders, new dynamics and a totally new work field Had conversations that exceeded my expectations and joined in new activities that I would never imagine participating.  A change that resulted in a year of many firsts and yeses.  First time cosplaying for dnd, holy I can never forget the entire experience, the wig wearing, the whole team immersing in a role that’s so un-us yet sporting enough to carry through. First time competing in cycling, my god I’ve never cycled so much consecutively in a working week and ohmy it’s seriously more of a mental challenge rather than physical. First time taking part in org-wide amazing race and seeing how in the face of sports, ranks don’t matter. And soon gonna be my first time representing HTX for HTG pickle ball, saying no to pingpong but yes to pickle ball, I mean why not haha...

A timely reminder of why I love psych work

In case I start wondering how the past decade has been at work. I thought it’s timely to share this private note that I wrote in 2024 - What did I learn as a psych all these years? I learnt that as psychologists, we provide the diagnosis for management to create better programmes and packages for officers.  I learnt that an expert checker is who he is because of passion coupled with good mentor and opportunity to experience getting positive hits.  Nature & nurture - Passion for wanting to learn more about cars modification and pairing w mentors who are experts themselves, teaching them all the tips that books wouldn’t cover.  I learnt that a team is good not just because they have a good leader. While the top leader is crucial in influencing good dynamics, it’s the collective efforts of next layer of leaders singing the same tune, not just in peacetime but also in crisis. In peacetime it’s about doing more, breaking ice, accelerating while in crisis, is about consiste...
